Thinking Pathway of our Task

Theme of our storyboard is “On the Farm”. From the English teacher resource handbook, they suggested that children learning through activities, such as : games, songs, etc. are much successful than just reading and writing. Publisher of the handbook is from an Educational Publishing House company.

For local primary students, esp. P.1 & P.2 they are curiosity about all the
living things. So the content of local English curriculum closely relates to students’ daily lives. As the children like animals, we decided a theme around the topic “ On the Farm ”

The theme of our storyboard is included in module of “The World Around Us”. The unit is Animal World.

By the way the design of this task is based on the central curriculum framework :
1. Facilitating the development of a “reading to learn” culture,
~ helping learners acquire effective reading skills and develop good reading habits
through the use of language arts materials,
~ develop their creativity and cultural awareness
2. Developing learners’ generic skills, values and attitudes and exposing them to rich
learning experiences
~ Using a learner-centred and a task-based approach in the planning and organization of
learning, teaching and activities, ensuring that emphases are put on helping learners
master both language forms and communicative functions for use in appropriate contexts
~ Through interactive activities in the games to develop children’ collaboration skills and
critical thinking skills.

We all agreed that learning experience in school should be funny and creative especially for younger students. That’s why we decided to create a colourful farm. Realistic sound of hens, cows, pigs and ducks encourages students to listen and imagine animal’s behaviour. Finally, song of “Old Macdonald had a farm” is added in our storyboard. It encourages students to learn easily in classroom.

Dear classmates,
Before taking this course, I know nothing about flash, storyboard or even the digital photo story. All these topics seem to be difficult for me. However, I am glad I could cope with all these difficulties. Just because the guidelines that Daniel gives us is clear. Although the pace of the learning progress is a little bit fast and my workload in school is heavy, I have a lot of good classmates. They give me a lot of advice and help.
The digital photo story
The next task is about the digital photo story. It is about the digital imaging. It is a kind of presentation for creative photography and multimedia projects. It is about how to import the images and audio clips, modify the images, record and edit audio and put all these materials in a finished Digital Story forms. I find that It is interesting for sharing my vocation stories with photos in a story form. It is useful for creating a multimedia slideshow for the presentations of the teaching materials.
Technology Tools for Digital Storytelling
There are many different kinds of software programs which are available to support Digital Storytelling. I think Microsoft Photo Story 3 is more user-friendly for me to apply.

Conculusion
I enjoy making digital photo story ( by Photo Story 3 software ) as well as watching it. It’s easy to learn and make. It doesn’t take too much time to produce it. The photos do not have to be high resolution, as the motion tends to mask the quality. The PhotoStories also scale nicely on a wide range of hardware. So after this course, if I have time I will make use of my other photos to make more photo stories.

Dear classmates :
Here is some history background of children's songs
We found that children from two to eight will especially enjoy the farm, what with the trampolines, slides and other play equipment. There is a whole farm of animals to see: rabbits, lambs, calves, birds of prey and ponies.
we can't find any written records of children's songs until the 17th century.
From then on, we could find some written records of children's songs , such as,
Three blind Mice , Tales of Mother Goose, Little Bo Peep and Lodon Bridge is falling down. All these famous children's songs we still teach our students to sing.

In 19th century, Sir Walter Scott and the Brothers Grimm, the great collector started to collect and published the traditional children's songs and fairy tales.
Halliwell published "Nursery Rhymes of England" in 1842 and "Popular Rhymes and Tales" in 1849. They are probably the two greatest collections of children's songs.
From then on, people are interested in and started to study the collection of children's songs.

Dear classmates
We ( Emily Cheung Pui Man, Mandy Chan Pik Shuen and Maria Chow Kam Lan ) formed a group to design our final assignment. As we are primary 1 and 2 English teacher, we choose a topic "An Animal Farm" as our assignment. In our assignment,
we will teach our students the name of some of the farm animals , the sound they made and the folk song about the animal farm. Fianlly we will design some interactive exercises.We are going to use flash to design our assignment.
